Softly Against Black / Dusk Bundle

I love to put together bundles of fabric. Pairing color and pattern is probably my favorite thing about quilting. So when my friend Rachel, at Stitched in Color, announced that she would be hosting a Fabric Mosaic Contest with Fresh Modern Fabric I just couldn't resist, especially when I found out the theme would be "softly against black". If you have been following my blog for a while, you probably already know how much I love to work with bright, saturated colors. Putting this palette together, however, was more of a departure from that and really allowed me to play with softer, muted hues and a range of shades in a totally new way.

Dusk Bundle

With this palette, I really wanted to capture that amazing feeling of simultaneous lightness and darkness that dusk often brings. You know that moment when the sun has gone, but the clouds on the horizon are still glowing a million shades of pink and lavender while the sky above is slowly turning dark and velvety? Ah! Yes. : )

The contest is open until September 20th, so stop by Stitched in Color to read up on the contest guidelines and get started on your own bundle(s).
