This week and last week I did a bit of sewing for a great cause. My friend Danny, at Mommy For Reals, is collecting pillow cases and zipper pouches for a wonderful summer camp program that focuses on helping teenagers in the foster care system. In Danny's own words:
"Teen Reach Adventure Camp is a three day single gender camp for kids ages 12-15 providing a fun-filled, outdoors experience with safe loving adults to help provide an experience that brings hope and encouragement to these hurting teens."
For the girls attending this year, they will have the chance to participate in a fun pyjama party where everyone will receive a handmade zipper pouch full of beauty products and toiletries plus their own special pillow. After camp, the handmade gifts will go home with the girls as souvenirs of their summer camp experience.
Last week, I sewed up a couple of quick zipper pouches and sent them off to Danny. Both are made in Wrenly. Don't you just love those little birdies and the bright pink lining? :) I hope the girls do!
I am also planning on making a pillow case. I'm using a strip of left-over flying geese from my Hello Spring! Cushion project. Danny is looking for 20" x 20" pillows, and since my pattern makes exactly the right size, I thought these would be perfect to use. I am going to change the pattern up a bit to account for only one row of geese paired with a couple of bright solids and a gorgeous paisley print from my stash.
If you would like to help out by making a pillow case, I know it would be greatly appreciated! Please check out Danny's original post here and sign-up.

I also had the chance this week to begin strategizing and piecing (not necessarily in that order though!) the backing on my Rainbow Pop quilt. I'm using some pieced strips of the leftover fabric from the quilt top paired with a larger cut of another lovely paisley. This fabric I actually bought and hauled all the way back from India when I was a student studying there years ago. I have several large cuts of cotton fabrics like this that I have been keeping aside for a special project. I decided that it was time to put some of it to use rather than keep it hidden away in a storage box. The fabric is actually block printed by hand (rather than machine screen printed) so there are tons of beautiful nuances all throughout the print.
