Weekend Sewing Plans

I have just started working with this bundle of fabric:

Hope Valley Fabric for Swoon Quilt

It's Hope Valley by Denyse Schmidt, probably my absolute favorite of her collections (even more so than Flea Market Fancy I think). I'm going to be turning these paired fat quarters into some lovely Swoon blocks very soon using Kona Ash as the background fabric. I won the Swoon pattern awhile back in a giveaway hosted by Brooke at Putter Putter Stitch. It's taken me some time to get up the courage to cut into my Hope Valley, but I'm glad that I did especially for this pattern! I have also worked out a way to allow me to use no-waste flying geese and my favorite Easy HST method to make the components for the blocks and reduce scraps (in theory!). So far so good, although I'm not sure how much efficiency I've gained. :) The pair on the far right is almost done, but it did take me a moment to make sure I had cut all of the correct pieces using my alternate calculations. I just need to make a few more flying geese and sew the whole thing together.

BTW I was also recently in contact over e-mail with Camille Roskelley, the designer of the pattern, to ask a couple questions and let me just say, she is absolutely the nicest lady! She has also just released a bunch of new quilt patterns (you can check out the post here) including this fantastic sewing-related design:

Isn't this the best? :) This is the kind of quilt that I seriously need to make for myself. Luckily I will have the chance to do that since Camille has also sent me a pdf copy of the pattern. I can't wait!

So I will be "swooning" all this weekend in addition to getting started on a couple other projects including one for this upcoming event:

Oh yes! There will be gnomas! :)
