I decided to have a bit of fabric fun myself and put together this collection of beauties for Katy and Brenda's Blogger Bundle contest for Pink Castle Fabrics. I have been pining for the central print from the Washi collection for a while now, so I used it as my main inspiration to pull together this rainbow of beautiful fabrics. Niji actually means rainbow in Japanese so I thought it would be a fitting name for this colorful bundle.

In the past, I have tended to select certain collections that I love and make projects using mostly those prints together with a few solids or basics thrown in. I have enjoyed capturing the story that I imagine the fabric designer has created for the collection in those projects, but the more I make these kind of bundles, the more excited I feel about putting together my own fabric palettes. So I have a question for you. :) How do you pull fabrics for projects? Do pre-selected bundles tend to be your favorite or do you prefer to mix and match on your own? Does choosing from online stores impact your decision at all?

Well, I am a terrible chicken when it comes to mixing fabrics. So right now I mostly stick to fabric collections. However, I am slowly building my stash with coordinating prints and colors so I can mix my own fabrics. I find that it is difficult to try to purchase mixed fabrics for a project, but easier just to have them on hand and go from there.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! I love that bundle, Jenelle! Perfect colors for a summery quilt. As for answering your question, I love seeing the bundles that fabric stores and others make, but I rarely buy them. They are great inspiration, but I think I just have more fun putting fabrics together on my own. I've never made a quilt from just one line, though I can definitely see why people do. The majority of my time seems to be spent agonizing over fabric selections, so that would easily speed up the process!
ReplyDeleteAwesome awesome bundle! I'm so buying one if you win because I too am obsessed with that washi print.
ReplyDeleteI've fallen into the really bad habit (at least in my mind) of doing single collection quilts. I need to force myself to get out of this rut, but what do you know, I've got an all aunt edna quilt planned as well as an all FMF! Maybe after those are done...
I suppose in NZ we don't get the opportunity to view entire collections - other than precut charm square packs and jelly rolls - so I have always shopped from a wide selection - especially when you get to see, smell and feel them. Online however, it is easier to trust the people who can actually see them - and I often get preselected bundles, although not always from the same range.
ReplyDeleteI would absolutely buy this bundle. It's like a sunset. Great job and good luck!
